Meet the Band
It all began when two aspiring songwriters crossed the patio at Reynolds Tavern in Annapolis, Maryland during the summer of
1993. Meg Murray was performing one of her original songs when Steve Lowe introduced himself as a fellow songwriter and the acoustic trio August West was born.

An Annapolis based singer-songwriter, Meg has worked with Grammy winning producers Timbaland (Missy Elliott), John Alagia (John Mayer), and Bill Plummer (Stevie Wonder), performed with her friend and mentor Eva Cassidy, and has sung on numerous national and regional commercials and record releases as a backup singer.
Meg is celebrating 30 years of performing as half of the Songwriter Association of Washington (SAW) Award winning acoustic duo August West with Steve Lowe.
In the 90’s, Meg was the lead singer and co-songwriter for the R&B/funk band Non-Fiction band along side guitarist Bryan Ewald (Starbelly, Take 6), Anthony Setola, Mark St. Pierre and John Thomakos, playing a 5 year residency every Sunday night at the Eastport Clipper. Meg also lead the alt-rock band Hussy, as well as appearing around the DC area with jazz artist Jeff Muller as vocalist, singing on the jazz CD “Music from The Play Tipton” by Jeff Muller about the life of musician Billy Tipton.
Meg has produced and released 5 CDs of original material on her own Girl Island Productions label, played in venues up and down the East Coast from Natucket to NYC to Birmingham, AL, and opened for acts such as America, Julian Lennon, Todd Rundgren, Marti Jones, Jonatha Brook, Southside Johnny, Edwin McCain, Aaron Neville and many others.
Meg Murray plays regularly with Steve Lowe as the Americana duo August West, performs with singer/songwriter Angie Miller, touring/session guitarist Bryan Ewald, singer/songwriter Dan Haas around the Annapolis area and the DMV, sings with former Blue Miracle front man Steve Cyphers in his new project Cyphers Band, with the Fleetwood Mac Tribute Second Hand News, and in the Baltimore based Steely Dan Tribute Band Technicolor Motorhome.

Steve has been writing and performing original songs in the Annapolis/DC/Baltimore area for over 30 years. Co-founder of August West with Meg Murray and Kevin Clarke. The formation of August West allowed Steve to start honing his songwriting craft.
In addition to performing with August West, Steve has been writing and co-writing with songwriter/playwriter Dan Searles, in which his songs have been featured on recording under the name The Walker Avenue Gang: Things Change and Bill Tilghman and The Outlaws, which featured Steve’s song “One Last Round”, featuring Meg Murray on harmony vocals. From this recording, “One Last Round” was picked up as a song to be featured in a full-length film also called “Bill Tilghman and the Outlaws”.
In 2021, working with Mark Gadson at Soundscape Studio, along with fellow talented and creative musicians, Sandy Ryder and Chris Levey, Steve premiered “Hear the Bells Chime”, an original Christmas song inspired by the bells of Christ Church Saint Michaels Parish located on the shore of the Miles River. Steve debuted the song at The AMFM Annapolis Musicians Fund for Musicians 2022 Christmas Show at The Rams Head Onstage in Annapolis, Md.
